Welcome to my world of
steam-trains !
Dear
visitors and fellow enthusiasts,
As the introduction page suggests, shall the
emphasis
of my website be on "real" steam on the last regular lines and
spots in the world. I'd like to share with you my most
exciting trips and pictures I took from various
countries around the world, including some personal experiences, stories, notes and
additional bits of information.
The
steam section is virtually divided in two parts: A steam branch, which shall
cover my trips and most exciting journeys worldwide - and Swiss steam.
Another part
is dedicated to modern, contemporary trains, covering mainly Switzerland.
The reason that most pictures you will encounter
on this site are
taken only in the latest years is simple: I have switched to digital technology
only recently. Virtually all my older pictures are slides and would have to be
scanned first, which is a time consuming venture. Besides this, I haven't
found a way yet for scanning my medium-format slides with satisfying
results at reasonable cost.
The aim of this site is not to provide detailed
information, news or statistics on the locations visited. There are plenty of
websites and publications that do that. What I would
like is presenting you my world of trains - the way I see
and like them!

I hope you'll enjoy this
web !

The
other kind of holiday snapshot: A real steam
enthusiast doesn't mind
to travel to the farmost corners of this word for his trains ! Daban, Inner Mongolia,
China, probably the busiest place for regular steam these days,
has become a kind of 'Mekka' to steam buffs from all
over the World. With the station master's peaked cap and the blue jacket
I could amost pass as a Chinese railway men, apart from the big nose of course

A
picture that tells more about the fascination of steam than any
words can do: Sunrise near Shinao with a Yebaishou
bound coal freight in northern China. Picture taken in December 1996. |
